I bought a 3.5mm stereo extension cable to easily move the transmitter forward to the tongue of the trailer. While it's is possible that the transmitter would make it past the 40 or so feet and sheet metal to get the signal to the receiver, I was not sure enough to waste my time wiring it in traditionally. I mounted the transmitter to the outside of my battery box, and the receiver 3 feet away under the back bumper of my truck. I wired it up to the reverse light so that it comes on anytime I am in reverse, but I also added a manual power switch (and diode to prevent backfeeding to the reverse lights) so I can activate the camera for lane changes on the interstate.
The wired camera that came with the monitor I mounted on the front bumper to aid parking my huge truck.
This is all working perfectly for a fraction of the expensive wireless RV cameras cost. Using a multiple feed rca cable I was able to carry both video to the front, and power to the rear on an unused video feed wire. These cams and receivers pull tiny amounts of current, so the RCA cables will more than sufficient to use for power.

We have an older car that doesn't have a backup camera. Well not really old, but in today's technology world, it seems that way. We love the backup camera in our newer car, so we wanted to install one in our other car. This camera was a great option at a great price. My husband installed it. Figuring out how to attach the wire and attaching the correct wires, taking the car apart in certain areas - that's the hard part. My husband has great electrical skills, so he worked this out well. He installed it onto the license plate screws & wired through a panel that can be popped out above that. He wired it to the backup lights wire, so that the camera turns on when the backup lights are on.
Having the camera is the cheap & easy part, you need to have the video display inside your car. We purchased & installed a Pioneer Multimedia DVD Receiver Touchscreen Display in the car too - that's the difficult and expensive part of it. My husband wired this in and purchased a new cover panel that matched the old one (so amazed that Scosche makes a cover that matches perfectly to most cars - called a DIN). Overall all the parts cost about $500. I think if we had it installed somewhere, labor would have been just as much too. Altogether is took two weekends to get it all done. I will mention that we purchased the Parking Brake Override Bypass for Pioneer Models that wires from the display to the parking brake, as recommended on the Amazon Pioneer Display reviews, so the camera works flawlessly, without needing to have the parking brake on - which doesn't make sense anyway.
The camera has to be angled correctly, or as you see fit - this took a little effort. The screws work well to tighten it down to the correct angle. It can be bumped out of place - we didn't have any problem opening the truck and not bumping it, but someone else loading some big items in our car clumsily bumped it. It does stay put even with slamming our trunk down. The camera view display is in color and shows four depth lines each in a different color - pretty cool! The camera clarity isn't as perfect as our newer car, but it is still very good. I read somewhere that cold temperature can make these cameras unusable. The package said it works down to 0 degrees. We live in California, so it's no issue for us.
We are very pleased with it. My husband absolutely loves it!
We have gone through some rain storms and it worked fine, but just recently drove through a major rainstorm and water got inside it. We opened it up and wiped out the moisture, it worked fine after that. We then sealed up the crevice with waterproof caulk to prevent this from happening in the future.
